Big win for CBCL in Qikiqtarjuaq

CBCL has recently been awarded the contract for the design of the Qikiqtarjuaq Deep Sea Port located along the eastern coast of Baffin Island.

Access to marine infrastructure has a very real impact on every person, business, and industry in Nunavut. Nunavut’s lacking marine infrastructure is severely limiting our ability to access resources, contribute to economic wealth and Arctic sovereignty, and protect and promote Nunavut’s natural beauty and resources.

The Hamlet of Qikiqtarjuaq has been actively advocating for a deep sea port in their community. A port in Qikiqtarjuaq will support the needs of northern marine trade corridors in particular as the Northwest passage opens and Arctic marine traffic increases. The port will increase northern vessel safety and services and will support the growing northern fisheries, tourism and trade industries.
