CBCL recognized for Engineering Excellence by ACEC-PEI
The CBCL team received an Engineering Excellence Award from the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies PEI for our project work with the Abegweit First Nation!
CBCL was engaged by Abegweit First Nation to assist with planning and design of their recently completed Abegweit Connects project which has provided the community with several new pedestrian and Active Transportation (AT) facilities. The key piece of the project is a new grade-separated AT crossing beneath the Route 2 highway which divides the residential area from the Hillsborough River and Confederation Trail.
The project has unlocked new opportunities for AFN residents to make healthy lifestyle choices by providing direct, safe access to the trail and river for recreational activities. The AT crossing helps to reconnect Indigenous residents with their heritage as the Hillsborough River has been an essential transportation route and food source for past generations. It also improves access to AFN’s services and amenities for Confederation Trail users.
The project also includes construction of a riverside landing to allow for future installation of a floating dock to support recreational boating on the river, as well as reconstruction of a portion of the highway complete with improved safety measures, supporting stormwater infrastructure and new lighting.
CBCL was responsible for all topographic surveying, geotechnical, civil, structural, transportation and electrical engineering as well as environmental approvals. Construction was completed in 2023.
Congratulations to the team!
